On the evening card at Wolverhampton on Saturday, ROCK OF LEON again just found one to good for him. He would have finished a great deal closer had he not been short of daylight at a vital stage of the race. He is entered again on Saturday at Wolverhampton but could miss this in favour of Lingfield on Tuesday.
On Monday, after the declaration of two non runners at Windsor we were just left with GRACELAND at Compiegne. She broke well and chased the leading pair. She was shaken up to challenge and did not appear to quicken, weakening inside the final furlong. It was testing conditions for her and maybe the ground had slightly gone against her.
On Tuesday we had declared SONAR who turned out to be our only runner at Leicester. Held up, he was ridden over three furlongs out and weakened over one furlong out. At Newcastle SAMPERA might have paid for doing a bit too much in the first half of the race. She is a filly for next year and will do well with a winter under her belt. At Wolverhampton BY JUPITER was towards the back in the early part of the race, but took a forward position with a circuit left. She saw out the longer trip well enough, but the winner was too strong. Hopefully she will have her day before the season ends.
Today we have been delighted with the effort shown by BANZARI at Nottingham. She had the best form in the race and when asked she strode clear for an emphatic first success. She is a lovely filly who will benefit from a winter break and looks an exciting prospect for next year. Tonight INVOKE takes her chance at Kempton. It would be great to see her going in before the Horses in Training sales as she certainly deserves to get a bracket by her name.
Tomorrow we have declared MY STRATEGY at Brighton. He showed promise on his debut run at Newmarket and looks to have come on for that run. It certainly looks an interesting race and appears better than some of the Brighton maidens have proved to be. In the evening GEORGE CINQ takes his chance at Wolverhampton. He is in terrific form and although not with the greatest of draws he always tries. Later on the card BORN TO RUN attempts two miles for the first time. He looks on the evidence of his runs that he is crying out for a trip and hopefully this will prove a good opportunity for him.
On Friday we have declared THUNDER IN MYHEART in the nursery at Newmarket. She ran well down here in the sales race which looked a tough contest and it would be great to head into the winter with her on the back of another decent effort. Finally we round the day off at Wolverhampton with SILVER MIRAGE in the Apprentice handicap. It looks a good opportunity for her and it would be great to see her finally get her head in front.
