Sunday 30th July
July 30, 2017
On Thursday we started the action at Sandown with BECUNA. Settled in the middle of the field, she was asked for her effort with two left to run. She soon weakened and was eased in the final furlong. We will see how she comes out of the race as we certainly thought she would show better. In the evening we headed to Newbury with SALAMAH. She was kept handy and when challenged she was asked for her effort, but could not quicken on the ground and soon faded. She looks as though she will appreciate a return to the all weather, which is where she has her best form.
Freebe Rocks
On Friday we started the evening at Newmarket with FREEBE ROCKS and CAN’T EXPLAIN in the same race. FREEBE ROCKS was steadied at the start and was soon struggling. CAN’T EXPLAIN emerged from out of the pack in the final furlong and certainly looked impressive. She looks to have plenty of ability and can only improve on this next time.
Can’t Explain
Later on the card JOE’S SPIRIT travelled well through the early part of the race. He faded out of it in the final furlong and did not appear to get the trip. He might be better suited over six furlongs or running on an easier track on firmer ground over seven.
Joe’s Spirit
We rounded the evening off with MISS FAY who was slowly into her stride and was rousted along early on. In touch, she was asked for her effort and plugged on at the same pace inside the final furlong. She certainly has failed to recreate her two-year-old form and does not look entirely in love with the game.
Miss Fay
On Saturday we headed to Newcastle with HIGHLIGHT REEL. He cruised into contention when asked for his effort, but could not put it to bed. He possibly did not really handle the surface. Later on the card COMRPISE had every chance in his race and weakened inside final furlong when asked to mount his challenge. At Ascot our only runner was FIRE BRIGADE. He did not get the clearest of runs and had to settle for third. It was a good effort and if he had not found any trouble he would have been much closer. At Newmarket HART STOPPER failed to build on his recent good form. Held up in touch, he was soon driven and made no impression. We will see how he comes out of the race, as he has been rather busy this month in some tough races. We rounded off the day with DUKES GIRL at Lingfield. She travelled well on the heels of leaders and was ridden over two furlongs out making no impression. She headed into the race in good form and we expected a better effort from her.
We have no runners tomorrow and then on Tuesday we head to Glorious Goodwood with our runners. FABRICATE gets the show on the road and we are hoping that he will give a good account of himself. He has been in great form and hopefully will be inconvenienced by the drop back in trip. Later on the card BIG ORANGE takes his chance. Hopefully the rain will stay away, which will certainly enhance his chances. He is in great form and is such a star. It would be so great to see him get the hat trick up in the race. At Yarmouth HANNINGFIELD takes his chance. In Handicap Company for the first time hopefully he will find his grade and do himself justice.
Yesterday the horses worked on the peat moss.
