On Thursday we headed to Newbury where SHIMMERING LIGHT was making her racecourse debut. Settled in a midfield position, she stayed on steadily when asked for her effort. She will be a sharper proposition next time and is sure to have needed the run. Later on the card it was great to see THE MAJOR go in again scoring his second victory in a week. He was six pound well in here and when asked for his effort he went to win his race. It was a good effort from both horse and jockey and Ben our assistant is well worth his five pound claim. He certainly looks to be one of the better amateur riders about at present and hopefully on the back of this effort will start getting more opportunities. We rounded the afternoon off at Nottingham where poor old JIVE TALKING finished second again. She travelled well throughout the race and edged left when she came to take her chance but the winner had already pulled away. This was a respectable reappearance and hopefully we will be able to find a winnable race for her before the July Sales where she holds an entry.
On Friday DREAM MACHINE was our only runner taking his chance at Sandown. He settled well, but could not get to the winner when asked for his effort. Although he won on good to firm ground he does seem to be more at home with cut in the ground.
On Saturday we started the day at Sandown with TAUREAN STAR. He was slightly awkward at the start and was then held up in rear. He was pushed along over a furlong from home and never really got competitive. We certainly expected better and we will see how he has come out of the race before making further plans. Later on the card TAPER TANTRUM ran a blinder just getting beaten by MACHINE LEARNER who we used to train and was owned by some of the guys in TAPER TANTRUM. He made his own way out in front and was able to hold his position up the straight. He stuck on well only just losing out in a bobbing finish. It was a good effort from our horse who was sadly only beaten a whisker. In the evening we headed to Lingfield where HANNINGFIELD was taking his chance. He was up with the pace and when asked for his effort he soon dropped away. His work at home had been better since his run so we expected a better show here and the ground had possibly gone against him.
Today we start the afternoon off at Salisbury with THEGLASGOWWARRIOR, making his handicap debut. Hopefully he will not find the ground too fast and will give a good account of himself. Later in the afternoon THREE DUCHESSES takes her chance. She worked nicely last week and with conditions in her favour she should hopefully be competitive
We have no runners tomorrow on Tuesday and then our Royal Ascot will hopefully begin on Wednesday. Fingers crossed It will be a good week for the Fitzroy team with our rather smaller than hoped Ascot runners.
