On Saturday we were delighted with the effort shown by INSTANT KARMA at Ascot. He had won his last two starts at a lower level and had been put up another five pound by the handicapper. He ran really well, gradually working his way into it and finishing well without quite being able to reach the winner. He stays a little further and remains capable of better still. He has come out of the race in good form.
On Tuesday we had declared CHELABELLA at Wolverhampton. She dwelt at the start and was dropped in behind after the start. She made some headway over two furlongs out, when switched right and then stayed on at the same pace. She was always going to struggle to win from her draw and we will hopefully be able to find another opportunity for her shortly.
We all got up early on Tuesday morning to watch BIG ORANGE in the Melbourne Cup. Sadly it was not our day, but he ran a good race and appears fine after it. He was held in a handy position from the outset, but could not find any change of gear as the race developed. Jamie Spencer felt the pace of the contest and being top weight contributed to their defeat. He is going to have another run out in Australia before coming home in a group two contest over twelve furlongs. Hopefully the race will be run more to suit him, but it does sound like it is going to be quite a tough contest.
On Wednesday we had declared the two runners starting the afternoon of at Nottingham with DREAM MACHINE. He was settled towards the rear of the field and made some headway over three furlongs out. He was soon ridden along and could never get near the leaders. In the evening we had declared DUKES GIRL for Kempton. She was kept handy early on and was ridden over two furlongs out. She could not sustain her effort and soon weakened over one furlong out. She is always going to be a filly for next year and with another winter under her belt hopefully she will strengthen and furnish.
We have entries this week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday but at this stage I am not sure what the runners are likely to be.
Yesterday the horses worked on the Cambridge Road.
