On Sunday GIANT REDWOOD was seen to better effect at Pontefract. He tracked the winner on the rail most of the way and ran a sound race on his first go at this distance. He remains open to improvement and is starting to find his level.
On Monday we headed to Beverley with STRATHEARN. He ran well from a bad draw, but having always been up there and holding every chance, he just failed to get home. It was a better effort and can only have helped his sales value at the July sales.
This evening we are heading to Kempton with the two declared runners. We start the evening off with TAPER TANTRUM who certainly deserves a change of fortune. He is ultra-consistent and it would be great to see him get a bracket by his name. Later on the card we introduce a nice two-year-old making his racecourse debut called ELEMENTARY. He has been pleasing in his work and although he will probably need the run he does look a nice prospect.
Tomorrow we head to Newbury with the four runners. We start the evening off with THREE DUCHESSES who is one of two, two-year-olds making their racecourse debut. She is a feisty little filly that is sure to improve for the run and will keep progressing. Later on the card DANCING ELEGANCE takes her chance after missing Leicester a fortnight ago due to the very soft ground. Hopefully the rain will stay away and enable her to take her chance. Our third runner of the evening is BONHOMIE who runs in the mile handicap and the form of her last run at Lingfield is working out well. She is on a mark that hopefully can exploit and she is another that we are hoping that Newbury avoids the worst of the rain. We round off the evening with ROCK OF MAX who things did not go the way of at Chelmsford last time and hopefully we have found a race here that he can be competitive in and give his very patient owner something to smile about.
On Friday we start the day off at Doncaster with SHOW LEGEND. He is tackling six furlongs for the first time this year and hopefully he will show some of the ability that we know he holds. At Chester PREOBRAJENSKA makes her re-appearance after a decent debut run at Yarmouth and she appears to have improved for that performance in her work at home. At Newcastle we are hoping we have found a contest that MACHINE LEARNER can get competitive in. He never really got competitive last time at Kempton and hopefully with the help of the sheepskin cheek pieces it will prove the key to getting him back on track. We round the evening off at Newmarket with CLEAR EVIDENCE. He was disappointing at Haydock on his last start and appears to have bounced back from that in his work at home. We feel he should appreciate the step up in trip and it would be great to get a winner on the board.
