On Saturday we started the afternoon off at Goodwood with GIANT REDWOOD. He tracked the leaders and looked uncomfortable coming down the hill and was soon beaten. He did not appear to handle Goodwood and we will find another opportunity for him on a flatter track. Later in the afternoon we headed to Newmarket with FRANKLIN D. Coming back to the track after a three-month break, he did well to get involved considering the fairly steady gallop set by the winner. He was keeping on well at the finish and it was a good effort from him. We rounded the day off at Chepstow with SCIARRA. Sadly the rain came to change the going too soft and she could not go on the ground.
On Monday we headed to Leicester starting the afternoon with NOTALOT who was making his racecourse debut. He raced in mid-division and made some headway over three furlongs out. He looked to get tired entering the final furlong, but it was an encouraging run and we were pleased with him. He will certainly come on for the run and should have no trouble winning his maiden. Later on the card STRATHEARN never got in his race and weakened entering the final furlong. He has an entry in the July Sales and will need to show a bit more if he is not going to take up this engagement.
Today we started the afternoon off at Lingfield with BONHOMIE. Running for the first time in handicap company she looked to struggle when asked to quicken and raced awkwardly late on. She looks as though she may just want a bit further. At Hamilton CHELABELLA was reluctant to go to post and had to be trotted all the way to the start. Dropped out early on, she was the first off the bridle and looked to be struggling on the ground which had certainly dried up plenty since she was declared. Later on the card FORECASTER raced handily and looked as though she was going to come and win her race. She battled really well, but just could not keep her head in front and was done near the line.
This evening MACHINE LEARNER takes his chance at Kempton. He has been in good form at home and hopefully can put up a good display here.
Tomorrow we head to Chelmsford where we are hoping that ROCK OF MAX will finally break his maiden tag after two seconds on his last starts. He has been slightly unlucky and deserves a change of fortune. Later on the card AKSUM takes her chance. She was due to be ridden by Lulu Stanford who sadly got kicked by a horse yesterday and cannot take the ride. She will now be ridden by Georgia Cox who is a good apprentice from the William Haggas yard and worked for us before taking the position there. AKSUM is in good form and hopefully will run a good race
