We headed to Bath on Wednesday with MIDAS HAZE being our only runner. Stepped up in trip for her handicap debut, she seemed to race a bit freely early on just behind the leaders which did not help her finishing effort. This was her first start since mid-June, so it could have been that she needed the run as she certainly had a good blow after the race. She is sure to come on for the run and will hopefully go close next time.
On Thursday our only runner was BIG SKY at Chelmsford. She looked to be racing too keen in the early stages and paid for those exertions when folding tamely late on.
On Friday we started the afternoon off at Ascot with TAUREAN STAR and it was great to finally get on the board with him after two promising efforts. He settled well on this drop in trip and was produced just right. He had to fight for the victory and will have learnt a lot from this. Later on the card FRANKLIN D was very unlucky in his race. He was having his first try on easy ground and had to be switched to make his effort, by which time the principals had first run. This was still a creditable effort and it will not be too long before he is winning again. At Newcastle MALVIA gave a good account of himself tacking five furlongs for the first time. He tracked the leaders and was asked for his effort two furlongs out. He chased the winner, but could make no impression. It was a good effort and hopefully we will now have a trouble free run with him as we know he is capable of winning races. He may just want a bit further. At Haydock GEORGE CINQ ran another solid race. He looked slightly unlucky when short of room trying to close from off the pace over a furlong out. He then saw little daylight between the front pair inside the last furlong, but kept on to finish third. We rounded of the day at Kempton with INSTANT KARMA. He was trying two miles for the first time and seemed to be travelling as well as any but the others appeared to come home stronger. It looked as though he possibly did not stay two miles and a drop back in trip cold suit. He looks capable of winning a race and the visor certainly appears to be helping.
Yesterday we had just the one declared runner at Thirsk and that was BIPARTISAN. She benefited from an easy surface on her last two starts and found a bit more improvement to go one better here. She looks progressive and as long as we can keep her settled she is certainly capable of winning again.
On Monday we have declared three runners at Windsor. We start the afternoon off with DUCK A L’ORANGE who looks to have progressed well since his run at Newmarket. He has been working well at home and should run a good race. Later on the card we have declared STRATHEARN. He appears in good form and should be competitive. We round off the day with ROCK OF MAX who is hopefully now on a mark that he can be competitive from. He has been treated quite harshly by the handicapper on his performances so far.
On Tuesday we head to Leicester with BOCKING END. She should hopefully appreciate the softer conditions and will hopefully run a nice race.
Yesterday the horses worked on the Back of the Flat
Strathearn ( Black Hat – Jamie Spencer), Show Legend (In the Middle) and Duck a L’Orange
Blue Moon Rising, Bocking End (Orange Vest), Bonhomie (Red Hat- Louis Steward) and Duchy (Black Hat – William Twiston- Davies)
