Sunday 30th August

August 31, 2015

On Wednesday our only declared runner was TAPER TANTRUM. Steadied at the start he raced towards the rear. He was asked for his effort two furlongs out and did not find as much as expected being eased inside the final furlong. He never seems to run the same race twice and may just benefit from a gelding operation.

On Friday we introduced a nicely bred newcomer BLUE MOON RISING making her racecourse debut.  She was slowly into her stride and was held up. She stayed on well from over a furlong out to finish fifth. This was a nice introduction and she looked as though she needed the race. she is sure to come on for it and should be a lot more streetwise next time. Later on the card MACHINE LEARNER gave a decent effort to finish third after having his run slightly obstructed. He travelled nicely throughout the race, but did not appear to have the turn of foot that front two had, entering the final furlong. He looks to be a nice horse who we think will make into a nice three-year-old with another winter under his belt. We rounded our day off at Thirsk with LE ROUQUIN who looked really awkward on leaving the stalls. Something was clearly a miss with him and he never got in the race. We will see how he is over the weekend before making further plans as we know he is better than this run would suggest.

Saturday we just had the two declared runners at Newmarket. We started the afternoon with ACADEMY HOUSE who was wearing the sheepskin cheek pieces for the first time.  He was switched to race on the stands side on leaving the gates. He made some good headway over a furlong out staying on at the one pace inside the final furlong. We rounded off the day with THEM AND US who was tackling six furlongs for the first time this year. Held up towards the rear he was asked for his effort hitting the rising ground and looked to be hanging left inside the final furlong. He looks to be more at home over further and maybe a step back up in trip could be on the cards for him.

Today it was great to see racing return back to Great Yarmouth and we headed there with the two runners. We started the afternoon off with MY STRATEGY who again gave another consistent effort of himself. In touch in a midfield position he was asked for his effort over two furlongs out and stayed on at the same pace entering the final furlong. He really needs to drop a pound or two in the handicap to win, but he keeps giving his all and never gets dropped. We rounded off the afternoon with ON THE HUH. He appeared to take a keen hold early on and still had plenty to do when asked for his effort. He made some headway when asked and plugged on never troubling the leaders. It is a shame that we have not got to see the best of him and hopefully we can get a bracket by his name sooner rather than later.

We have no runners tomorrow and return to the action on Tuesday with STRAIT OF MAGELLAN. He is another that has been giving his all in his races without managing to get his head in front. He deserves a change of fortune and hopefully he will have his day here.
