On Tuesday we had a fantastic day at Lingfield with a double which was so nearly a treble. We started the afternoon with BIG SKY who had failed to show the promise that we knew she has so far on her starts. She chased the leaders and was ridden and went clear with the leader over one furlong out. She was driven to lead inside final furlong and ran on well. Later on the card THUNDER IN MYHEART brought the double up when she scored her first victory. Stepped up in trip for this her all weather debut and sporting a first-time hood she settled nicely on leaving the stalls at the rear of the field. She was given a patient ride and seemed to have plenty to do turning in. She looked to have a decent turn of foot when taken to the inside rail and caught the eventual runner-up near the line to get off the mark on her ninth attempt. It looked a good effort from the filly, who seems to run better when freshened up. We rounded off the day with STRAIT OF MAGELLAN who was so close to giving the yard a treble. He was given a good tactical ride, making the running and injecting a bit of pace heading down towards the final bend. It looked as though he might have stolen the race turning in, but the favourite still had enough time to gather himself together and there was little he could do about it. He has now finished second four times in a row, but there is little wrong with his attitude as he really does try his heart out.
Today we have started the day at Beverley with STRATHEARN. He held every chance in the race, but could only run on at the one pace in the final furlong when asked for his effort. Maybe the ground had dried up a bit too much for him as he had ran so well on good ground at Ffos Las on his previous start. This evening we start the action off at Bath where STORYTALE is looking to get off the mark. He has been doing some nice work and it would be great to see a decent effort from him on this his handicap debut. We round the evening off at Kempton where LE ROUQUIN takes his chance. He has had a mini break and heads into the race fresh and well. He may just need the run, but is capable of doing himself justice in this sort of company.
On Friday we have declared the three runners at Newmarket. We start the evening off with TAUREAN STAR who did a nice piece of work on the watered gallop under Louis Steward this morning. He certainly appears to have come on for his Doncaster run and should be competitive. Later in the evening we introduce a nice two-year-old making his racecourse debut called DUCK A L’ORANGE. He is another who has been pleasing on the gallops and looks an exciting prospect. We round off the evening with the ultra-consistent MY STRATEGY. He would appreciate the rain that is forecast to arrive and certainly deserves to get another bracket by his name.
