Sunday 10th May

May 10, 2015

On Wednesday we headed to the Chester Oaks with BANZARI. I thought she ran well considering she had to race a little wide from her draw. She ought to step up on this and is sure to improve for the run. She appears to have taken the race well and we will come up with another plan for her. Later on the card GRACELAND was slowly into her stride and was pushed along to get a position. This was possibly not the best idea as she ran slightly keen from then on. She was ridden and made headway over two furlongs out, keeping on inside final furlong. She did herself few favours with a slow start and could never seriously get into it. She can find an opening again and we will look for another race for her. In the evening we headed to Chelmsford with three runners. We started the evening off with SAVOY SHOWGIRL who raced in touch in the last trio. She was ridden and started to struggle two from home. She will have needed this run and we should be able to find a suitable race that hopefully she will be competitive in. Later on the card it was a better effort shown from ROCK OF MAX on the back of his disappointing Newmarket run. He dwelt at the start and was ridden along early on. He raced in touch in a midfield position and plugged on a furlong from home. We rounded the evening off with ORANGE BLOOM who was settled in touch in a midfield position. She was ridden and looked well beaten inside the final furlong. She was slightly disappointing and did not look as though she had come on for her Newmarket run.

On Friday we headed to Lingfield with BAREFOOT DANCER who we had high hopes for after his recent Haydock second. He never looked like getting involved from off the pace at any stage here and this was very disappointing. The jockey felt that he was unsuited by the going and we will see how he is before making another plan for him. At Chester BIG ORANGE was being stepped up in class after his two listed wins to tackle group company again. He took the lead early on and was forced to pick up the pace further out than ideal when others closed up. He finished tired and probably needs better ground to show his best. He has taken the race well and is sure to come on for that run. In the evening MODEST was making her debut. After some trouble down at the stalls with the other runners which unsettled her she refused to enter the starting gate. I thought she was a bit harshly treated as she certainly did not get as much time as some of the others did and she was soon taken away. She has given no trouble at home which makes it all the more frustrating. We rounded the evening off at Nottingham with THUNDER IN MYHEART and MY STRATEGY. THUNDER IN MYHEART chased the leaders and was ridden along well over three furlongs out. She soon weakened and was behind when eased. It was a poor run and on the evidence of her Beverley run she should have been in the mix here. Later on the card MY STRATEGY ran another solid race to finish third. He was trying a longer trip for the first time and did not do badly in the testing ground. He has improved this year and can win races on turf as long as the handicapper does not have him in his grasp.

Yesterday after the withdrawal of INSTANT KARMA we headed to Nottingham with BANDITRY. He looked a bit keen early on and after having every chance in the straight, could not pick up under pressure. He is sure to have needed the run and should be progressive next time.

On Monday we start the afternoon at Doncaster with SAMPERA. She finished fifth on her first start at Nottingham this year and she looks to have come on for this. Later on the card GEORGE CINQ takes his chance. He ran really well on his seasonal debut this year at Kempton to finish second. He is a real trier and will certainly give his best. We round the afternoon off with ON THE HUH. He has been applied with a visor for the first time and hopefully this will bring out the improvement that we know he possesses. He certainly has not been showing on the track what he has been doing at home. At Wolverhampton we start the afternoon off with CHASING RUBIES. She will run in a hood and a visor as she is another who we feel is better than she has been showing on the track. We round the afternoon off with MOTION PICTURE. She had to miss her intended debut run at Newbury last month and come into this on the back of some nice work. She is certainly one who will progress for the experience and we would like to see her run a promising first race.
