It was great to return to the action after the Christmas and New Year break with FREEBE ROCK being our declared runner at Wolverhampton. He had been stepped up in trip on this his all-weather debut and had been gelded since his last start. He was produced with his effort up the inside in plenty of time and looked to hit the front for a few strides, but was just run out of it towards the line. He will come on for the run having been off the track since August and should hopefully break his maiden tag next time. He is entered again on Friday.
Yesterday we started the afternoon off at Lingfield with the three declared runners. JOE’S SPIRIT started things off for us giving a good account of himself in the opener. Wearing a hood for the first time, he really took off in the final furlong and will be well worth another chance at this distance. He would have been suited by a stronger pace and it opens up more options for him over this trip. Later on the card TOWERLANDS PARK was settled in third for most of the race. He was asked to mount his challenge and had every chance, but did not pick up as well as hoped. It looks as though he could do with some relief from the handicapper on the evidence of this run. We rounded off the afternoon with NURSE NIGHTINGALE who again failed to get her head in front and had to settle for another second. She rallied well in the first-time cheek pieces and just could not get up to the winner She is certainly a victim of her consistency, which means she is given little respite by the handicapper. In the evening it was great to get two winners on the board at Kempton. We started the evening off with an impressive win by SHERIFF who had been working well at home since being gelded. He won with more than enough in hand and looked impressive. He has been declared to run at Southwell on Tuesday where hopefully he can again be competitive. Later on the card CHOICE ENCOUNTER provided us with our second winner of the evening and it was great to see him get his head in front after some consistent efforts. He produced a sweeping run down the outside to come from last to first to score his win. Hopefully he can improve again and looks capable of winning a similar contest.
Yesterday we had a couple doing some easy work on the Cambridge Road
