Sunday 10th September

September 10, 2017

On Thursday we headed to Chelmsford with ICE DANCING. She tracked the leading pair and when asked for her effort she did not get a clear run and had to be switched over a furlong from home. She kept on well and sustained an effort, just being outpaced by winner towards finish.  She handles this surface well and it was another good effort from her.

On Friday we started the afternoon off at Ascot with IMMORTAL ROMANCE. He tracked the leaders and remained close up over one furlong out. He faded in the final furlong looking to get tired on the soft ground.

Later on the card we were delighted with the effort shown by FIRE BRIGADE in his contest. He did a lot of racing on his own and he picked up really well when asked for his effort. It was unfortunate to run into such a high class horse as the winner, but it shows how good our horse has become.

We rounded the day off at the track with SACRED ACT. He travelled like the winner, but found little when asked for his effort. He looked to get tired and had a good blow after the race. He certainly will have needed the run and hopefully this will put him spot on for next time. In the evening we headed to Musselburgh for their evening meeting with the two runners.

It was great to finally get off the mark with ARABIAN JAZZ who certainly deserved her win. She had the run of the race in behind and came clear getting the better of the tiring leader inside the final furlong. Later on the card ARMAGNAC ran with credit just coming across one too good for him. He did not get much daylight at the crucial stage of the race which possibly cost him second, but he would never have beaten the winner. He was due to return from Musselburgh sometime yesterday afternoon and we will see how he is before making further plans. He is entered again at Epsom on Thursday.

Yesterday GRACELAND put up a good performance in the heavy ground at Haydock. She took a little while to settle and raced quite keenly. She was ridden to chase the leader well over a furlong out and led inside the final furlong. She plugged away at the one pace and was headed towards the finish. It was a good effort as she was giving the eventual winner a stone in weight. Later on the card WINSTON C took his chance and he had been running well in defeat at the big meetings in handicaps at Goodwood and York. This was another solid effort, but sadly he could not quite sustain his challenge late on in the testing conditions. We rounded off the day at Wolverhampton for their evening meeting with BATTS ROCK. Held up at the back of the field, he raced wide and when asked for his effort he stayed on to finish fourth. We expected a better effort from him at the track where he is a course and distance winner.

We have no runners tomorrow and then on Tuesday we start the day off at Leicester where MAORI BOB takes his chance. He is looking for a hat trick of wins after his two recent victories at Beverley. He won nicely last time and Lulu Stanford who seems to have a great rapport with the horse rides him again. Later on the card TAUREAN STAR returns to the track after a short absence. He looks to be in good form at home and hopefully will give a good account of himself. Later in the afternoon we head to Catterick where DUKES GIRL takes her chance. She is unlucky not to have broken her maiden tag so far and hopefully can get a bracket by her name before the Horses in Training Sales. We round off the day at Newcastle where NURSE NIGHTINGALE takes her chance at Newcastle’s evening meeting. She has arrived into us from Hugo Palmer’s yard where she has some form and with Tristan Price’s seven pound claim hopefully we have found a race she can be competitive in.
