On Monday we started the day off at Thirsk where DUKE’S GIRL was making a re-appearance after her Salisbury run. She looked to be a bit headstrong early on and when asked for her effort she appeared to get going too late. It was a better effort from her and on the evidence of this run; she looks well capable of winning races. At Windsor, CHOICE ENCOUNTER took his chance. He had made the running when second on his two previous appearances, but was held up this time and failed to make any impression when asked for his effort. He looks happier being able to dictate in his races.
Yesterday after the withdrawal of MERLIN due to the ground, it left us with just the two runners at Yarmouth. We started the afternoon off with IMMORTAL ROMANCE who was making his racecourse debut. He settled nicely and although he did not quicken as well as the eventual winner, he certainly showed enough to suggest he is well capable of winning a similar contest. He looks to have taken the race well and we will come up with another plan for him. Later on the card WONDER OF DUBAI failed to get competitive in his contest. Dropped in trip, he found little when asked for his effort and this was long way below his previous best. He looked like he was staying on again towards the finish and so he may just appreciate stepping back up to a mile.
Tonight we head to Kempton where WINSTON C takes his chance. He showed promise on both his two-year-old runs and we think he will appreciate the step up in trip.
We have no runners on Thursday and then on Friday we start the afternoon of at Brighton with JE SUIS CHARLIE. He ran a lovely race at Doncaster on his lasts start and if he recreates this he should certainly be competitive. In the evening we head to Haydock where we start the evening off with THE MAJOR. He settled lovely and travelled well on his last start at Sandown and looked to get a bit tired when asked for his effort. He seems to have come on for that run and hopefully should be very competitive here. We round of the evening with BECUNA who did a nice piece of work under South African jockey Gavin Lerena who we were delighted to have riding out for us this morning. She looks in good form and should run a nice race.
