Sadly PURPLE RAVEN failed to impress in her race at Kempton. She was settled off the pace and when asked for her effort she failed to find anything and finished down the field. It was a disappointing effort and we will see how she is over the next couple of days before making any further plans. She is due to go to the sales next Thursday.
Today we were delighted with the effort shown by BABAMUNCHKIN on her racecourse debut at Newmarket. She travelled well and was last off the bridle. She looked green and appeared to get tired hitting the dip. She is likely to be more effective on a sounder surface, but it was a good run from her and she is sure to have needed it. Later on the card ELEMENTARY failed to shine in his contest. He looked quite unruly on the way to post and just might need faster ground to be seen at his best. He is in the Horses in Training Sales and is due to go through the ring on Monday. Later on the card ABACUS failed to get involved in his contest. He was always towards the rear and never got competitive. We rounded the afternoon off with JE SUIS CHARLIE who ran a good race to finish third. He was asked for his effort late on and when he started to pick up the race was already over. He will be such a nice horse for next season and is one that will keep improving with age.
On Friday we have declared the two runners at Newbury. We start the afternoon off with BOCKING END who has been dropped back in class. She should be happier in handicap company and hopefully will give a good account of herself. We round off the afternoon with GIANT REDWOOD who takes his chance in the apprentice race. If he can recreate his earlier form he should have a good chance.
