Wednesday 14th September
September 14, 2016
On Monday we were delighted with the effort shown by THREE DUCHESSES who we felt was slightly unlucky not to win her race at Wolverhampton. She chased the winner until steadied into third over six furlongs out. She was ridden just over two furlongs and made no impression until she mustered up a strong run well inside the final furlong, but just failed to get up.
On Tuesday at Thirsk we were delighted to get a win on the board with MACHINE LEARNER who had been consistent so far this season without winning. Back on turf after three outings on the all-weather, he was covered up as late as possible before being switched with his challenge heading into the final furlong and saw it out well. He was given a lovely ride by Louis Steward who timed his run to perfection.
On Wednesday JE SUIS CHARLIE takes his chance. He ran with plenty of promise on his first start, just probably needing the run. He appears to have come on for that and we expect him to be competitive. At Yarmouth we have declared STICKS McKENZIE a two-year-old by Sepoy. He has really started to come together in the last couple of weeks and although he will probably need the run, hopefully he will give a good account of himself.
Thursday we see the re-appearance of MERLIN who has been stepped up in trip to a mile which should suit him. It looks a warm contest, but he is improving and although he possibly would like a bit more give in the ground we expect him to run well.
