Sadly on Sunday THE MAJOR failed to perform to his usual consistent self. He chased the leading pair and stayed on handy in fourth place. He was asked for his effort three furlongs from home and was soon struggling. He seems fine after his race and we will gradually try and freshen him up.
On Tuesday it was great to get off the mark with NOTALOT. He seemed to appreciate the step up to seven furlongs and when asked for his effort he looked to come right away to score a nice victory. He seems to keep improving and looks as though he may get further.
Today we reverted to the jumping at Newton Abbot and we were so delighted to get two winners on the board at the meeting. We started the afternoon off with TAPER TANTRUM who was making his debut over the hurdles. Without the visor he had been wearing on the flat he looked happy tracking the eventual runner-up throughout. He pounced late on and won nicely. He is obviously entitled to come on for the experience and looks as though he has some talent. Later on the card INSTANT KARMA seemed to be happy to be back over the jumps. He took a while to hit top gear, but got to the front at the right time and found enough to hold on. The key to him is the summer jumping ground and he is relishing a change from the flat. Tonight we head to Bath where FORECASTER is hoping to break her maiden tag. She has been applied with the first time visor and hopefully that will bring about the necessary improvement. At Kempton BONHOMIE takes her chance and she heads into the race on the back of her win at Wolverhampton. She looks in great form and seems to have taken that race well.
Tomorrow we head to Salisbury starting the afternoon off with the consistent GRACELAND. She is so game and unfortunately is being punished for her consistency without winning. It would be great to see her get her head in front as she certainly deserves to get another bracket by her name. We round off the afternoon with CLEAR EVIDENCE who heads into the race on the back of his win at Newmarket on his last start. He has been working nicely and should hopefully give a good account of himself. At Yarmouth MERLIN is making his racecourse debut. He is such a good looking horse who will certainly come on for the run. It looks quite a tough maiden and it would be great to see him run with plenty of encouragement. His work has been good at home.
On Friday we head to Newmarket with the one declared runner ARMAGNAC. He ran a nice introductory race at Doncaster on his debut and is sure to have come on for that run.
