On Wednesday we had declared the two runners at Kempton. TAPER TANTRUM started the evening off for us. He raced on the inside rail and when asked for his effort, he weakened in the final furlong. He possibly did not see out the extra furlong and we will come up with another plan for him. Later on the card ELEMENTARY was making his racecourse debut. He was dropped out at the tail of the field and looked green as he was asked to get competitive. He shaped with plenty of encouragement and is sure to be more up on his game next time.
On Thursday we headed to Newbury with the four runners. We started the evening off with THREE DUCHESSES. She raced towards the rear early on and was asked for her effort at the half way stage. She kept on in the final furlong and is sure to have needed the run. I am sure will be seen to better effect next time as would have learned a lot here. Later on the card DANCING ELEGANCE was also making a racecourse debut. She was slow away from the gates and made a promising move on the inside of the field before tiring. She should improve for the run and should be capable of breaking her maiden tag. Our third runner of the evening was BONHOMIE who was always kept handy in the race. She was leading with two furlongs left to run when she was headed and faded inside final furlong. She looks capable of winning a similar contest on better ground. We rounded the evening off with ROCK OF MAX who raced quite freely early on and failed to see his race out.
On Friday we started the day off at Doncaster with SHOW LEGEND. He again proved disappointing and might benefit from some headgear as we know he is better than he has been showing. At Chester PREOBRAJENSKA ran another sound race on only her second start. She possibly did not handle the bends too well, but after taking up the running in the straight she was collared close home. At Newcastle MACHINE LEARNER ran a better race. He chased the leaders and was asked for his effort in the later stages of the race. He was no contest for the first two and stayed on the finish third. We rounded things off at Newmarket with CLEAR EVIDENCE. He travelled well early on and was wound up for his effort three furlongs from home. He flattened out nearing the final furlong and the longer trip on such testing ground may have been too much for him, but it was an encouraging effort.
On Saturday we started the afternoon off at Newmarket with BOCKING END. She pulled quite hard early on and was ridden with two furlongs left to run. She found little response and appeared to struggle to get going in the ground. Hopefully she can bounce back from this defeat back on a sound surface. In the evening we were treated to another second which is the story of our season so far when THE MAJOR took his chance at Lingfield. He was given a good ride by Louis Steward as he is not the easiest of rides. He looked like the winner entering the straight until the leader found extra. He eventually wore him down, only to be swamped by the winner late on. It was a good effort from the horse and hopefully we can find a winnable opportunity for him shortly.
On Monday we have declared the two runners. We start the afternoon off with STETCHWORTH PARK at Wolverhampton. He has been in great form since his last race and his work has been good at home. We are expecting a good effort from him. We round off the day at Pontefract where DUCK A L’ORANGE takes his chance. He was unlucky last time in that he was given so much to do and watching his work last week you would have to give him a good chance. It would be great to get some winners on the board as we are having so many placed horses.
Today the horses worked on the Back of the Flat.
