Our all-weather squad is coming together and we were pleased with the run from KAISAN at Southwell on Thursday. He had been gelded since his debut run at Leicester in October and showed up well for a long way. He had every chance from the turn in, but could not keep up with the first two. He is bred to want further and a step up in trip may just suit him.
On Saturday WAR DEPARMENT made his debut for the yard at Lingfield. He had looked a promising two-year-old on his first start and was unlucky at Royal Ascot on his second, after being badly hampered when trained by William Haggas. He tracked the leaders and was asked for his effort over a furlong from home. He found little when under pressure and kept on at the same pace, losing third inside the final furlong. He may appreciate a bit further and hopefully will show some improvement for the run.
On Sunday we were hoping to get another win for MODEST at Chelmsford before the February Sales. She looked to be taken off her feet early on before making some late progress. She looks better suited by another furlong and on a slower surface. She heads to the sales now and certainly looks capable of winning again for her new connections.
We have no runners tomorrow and then on Wednesday at Lingfield we have declared the two runners. We start the afternoon off with AID TO AFRICA making his racecourse debut. He has taken a while to come together and although he we probably need the run he has shown that he is capable of doing himself justice on the all-weather. Later on the card FRANKLIN D makes a return to the track after he won nicely at Lingfield in November before having a winter break. He appears to have done really well over the winter and we expect him to make up into a nice prospect. Hopefully he will be competitive.
