On Monday we had declared three runners at Windsor. We started the afternoon off with DUCK A L’ORANGE who may well have finished second, but for being carried left by one of the other runners inside the final half furlong. It was another good run and he looks as though he is capable of getting a win under his belt before the end of the season. He is bred to want further and looks a nice prospect for next season. Later on the card STRATHEARN ran well from a patiently ridden ride in a race that was dominated by the pace horses. A stronger gallop will suit him in future and he will be entered at Ayr next week. We rounded off the day with ROCK OF MAX who was given a positive ride. He was ridden over two furlongs out and was headed when one paced in the final furlong. It was a better effort and he seems to be starting to get his act together although he is on a high enough mark.
On Tuesday we headed to Leicester with BOCKING END who gave a much better effort on softer ground. She was finishing better than anything down the outside and this was a good improvement on her first two starts. She could be interesting in a staying nursery as she looks as though she will get further.
On Wednesday we headed to Doncaster and were delighted to get a win on the board with SHOW LEGEND. He has worked so well on the soft ground at home and so we expected a decent run from him. He seemed to appreciate the extra furlong and made most of the running. He was finding plenty in a sustained duel with the runner-up and looks to have more to offer. He is definitely at home on the softer ground. Later on the card TOUCHLINE was tackling five furlongs for the first time. She had been doing well in races over six furlongs and further previously. She chased the winner throughout and was given every chance when running on really well towards the finish. She is clearly versatile and looks capable of winning at this level, but she could be more suited by six furlongs.
On Thursday we started the day off at Chepstow with FORECASTER. She looked green early on racing at the back of the field. She did not realise what the game was all about until very late and should improve plenty from this. Later on the card NIBLAWI proved disappointing on his handicap debut. Having made the frame in all his six starts in maidens he started to hang as soon as he came under pressure and may have found these conditions too quick. At Epsom STRAIT OF MAGELLAN gave another gallant effort. He looked sure to gain a deserved win when sent for home two furlongs out. However in front arguably sooner than ideal, he edged left under pressure and slowly ran out of steam. Runner-up now on five successive occasions, he is creeping up the weights, which is not going to help his chances. We rounded off the day at Chelmsford with STONE ROSES. She tracked the leaders and did not get a clear run entering the final two furlongs. She was asked for her effort over one furlong out and struggled for room again. She soon could make no impression and weakened inside final furlong. She was found to be in season after the race and this run is best left forgotten.
Today we have SAMPERA running at Ffos Las and as long as she does not find the ground a problem we expect her to be competitive. She appears in good form.
On Monday we have declared the two runners at Wolverhampton. We start the day off with ON THE HUH who is proving quite frustrating as he is certainly capable of winning races. He will definitely have his day and hopefully it will come sooner rather than later. We round of the day off with GOLDEN HELLO who is another who has possibly not being showing his best. He heads to the Horses in Training Sales and it would be great to head into it a winner.
