Sunday 9th August

August 9, 2015

We rounded off Wednesday with the three runners at the evening meeting. At Newcastle ON THE HUH chased the leaders and was pushed along at the halfway stage. He was soon beaten and again proved disappointing. He certainly works better at home and it is a shame that we are not seeing this sort of effort on the track. At Kempton in the evening we started with ROCK OF MAX. He raced towards the rear and was pushed along over two furlongs out. He kept on steadily from over a furlong out and finished in a midfield position. He is now eligible for a handicap mark and providing he is not treated to harshly and we can have a smooth run with him hopefully he will prove competitive in his grade. We expected better from PENANG PAPARAJAH later on the card. He looked keen going to post and did not get home having raced up with the pace on a return to the Polytrack. On his previous form he is capable of winning a race and hopefully it will happen sooner rather than later.

On Friday we were left scratching our heads with the effort shown by ROSECOMB at Newmarket. She raced towards the rear and never got into the race. We will see if anything comes to light to explain this poor performance.

On Saturday we had declared FRANKLIN D who got off the mark on his third start when taking a mile Sandown maiden last month. He was keen early on and stayed on well, looking as though he will be suited by further. It was another good effort from the horse and as long as he learns to settle he will have the makings of a nice horse.

On Tuesday we start the afternoon off at Lingfield with BIG SKY. If she can start performing on the track like we know she can she should be extremely competitive on this her nursery debut.  Later on the card we have declared THUNDER IN MYHEART. She has had a mini break since her last run and heads into this race fresh and well. We round off the evening with the slightly unlucky STRAIT OF MAGELLAN. He is so consistent and is getting punished for this consistency by rising in the weight without winning. He certainly deserves a change of fortune and hopefully he will get his day here.
