Wednesday 27th May

May 27, 2015

On the bank holiday Monday we started the afternoon off at Windsor with MODEST. She raced a little keenly early on which certainly did not help her chances. She moved strongly for a long way and she may just be better suited by five furlongs. With normal progress she is certainly capable of winning her maiden. At Leicester we started the afternoon off with GIANT SHADOW making his racecourse debut. He was slowly into his stride and was always playing catch up after this. He is sure to come on for the run and hopefully will get more competitive on his next start. We rounded the afternoon of with JAYEFF HERRING who certainly does not look in love with the game. He has been a great servant for the apprentices in getting them started and a change of career is now on the cards for him. Hopefully he will bring a lot of fun and happiness to his new connections.

On Tuesday we started the afternoon off again at Leicester with SAVOY SHOWGIRL.  She appeared to run in some trouble and never really got into the race after this. She is certainly better than she has been running and she holds an entry in July Sales. She looks as though she may be suited by a step up in trip and hopefully we will be able to get a win out of her before then. GOLDEN HELLO proved disappointing later on the card. He tracked the leaders and looked to be pulling hard. He was ridden over one furlong out and soon weakened. We expected a better run from him given that it was his second start and he certainly did not show the improvement that we had expected. We thankfully rounded the afternoon off with a winner when SAMPERA obliged at the track. Applied with a visor for the first time it appeared to do the trick although she was lucky that the line came when it did. She went for home early in the straight and found just enough to repel the fast-finishing runner-up. Possibly stamina had been found out over twelve furlongs at Doncaster last time and this lesser trip proved ideal.  At Lingfield MOTION PICTURE was making her second start.  She had been stepped up in trip following her third on her Wolverhampton debut earlier this month. She tried to make all, but was done for speed once into the straight. She is certainly bred to get further and another step up in trip could be on the cards.

Tomorrow we head to Lingfield where DOWN TO EARTH is hoping to build on his recent Nottingham win. It sees him return to the all-weather which he does not appear to mind and hopefully he can be competitive again.

On Friday we have declared THUNDER IN MYHEART at Newcastle. She is certainly capable of winning races and it would be great to see her get her head in front here. She was disappointing on her last start when the ground possibly went against her and hopefully she will have things more in her favour. In the evening ONE MAN ARMY makes a return to the track after his Southwell win. He has always been well liked in the yard and it would be great to see him progress again. His work has certainly been good leading into the race.

Today the horses worked on the peat moss and Cambridge Road
