Sunday 31st May

May 31, 2015

On Thursday we headed to Lingfield with DOWN TO EARTH. He was making his handicap debut, having won a Nottingham maiden on his reappearance last month. He was sloppy on jumping from the gates and pretty much lost his race at the start. He did stay on well, but had too much to do and sadly could not catch the leading pair. He looks on an upward curve and hopefully there is more to come from him.

On Friday THUNDER IN MYHEART took her chance at Newcastle. She appeared to take a keen hold when racing in touch. She weakened inside the final furlong and could make no impression. She appears to have lost her way slightly and hopefully we can get her back to her best as on her seasonal debut she looked capable of winning races. In the evening ONE MAN ARMY was making his return to the track after his Southwell win. He had little room to challenge when seemingly going well in the straight and, while he was left behind when in the clear; he had ended up on the dead rail and was eased. He can do better as we know he has ability.

On Saturday BIG ORANGE failed to produce his best at York. He had finished along way behind Clever Cookie on his return at Chester on his previous start and failed to show the benefit of that outing here despite having conditions in his favour. He did not look happy not being able to set the pace and a return to these tactics could possibly be back on the cards. At Newmarket we started the afternoon off with recent breeze up purchase SHOW LEGEND. He was sloppy on leaving the stalls which was disappointing. Slowly into his stride he was pushed along from two furlongs out. He kept on inside final furlong, but could never trouble the leaders. It is a shame that he did not jump better as he possibly lost his race here. He has been working nicely and has certainly shown encouraging signs. He is sure to come on for the run and will be more streetwise next time. Later on the card we had declared JARGON and THEM AND US against each other. JARGON broke well and travelled nicely early on. When asked for his effort he looked to get tired on approaching the rising ground. He is sure to have needed the run and will come on for this effort. THEM AND US refused to settle early on and was never going to be able to sustain an effort after this.

Today we have ORANGE BLOOM running at Nottingham. Hopefully she will be happier with the drop back in trip and will show something. She is entered in the July Sales and it would be great to see a decent effort from her to enhance her value for them.

Tomorrow we have declared BERLAND at Leicester. He should be suited by the step up in trip and it would be great to see him get competitive. At Lingfield we have declared STRAIT OF MAGELLAN. We have applied a visor for the first time and along with the step up in trip, hopefully it will bring about some improvement.

Today the horses worked on the watered gallop
