Well we managed to have a winner while I was away on holiday and that came on Wednesday last week courtesy of HABESHIA who made it two out of two. He was given a good ride and was allowed to stride on and set his own pace. He battled well when challenged and was finding more at the finish. It was a good effort from the horse, but sadly he failed to make it three out of three on Tuesday when he missed the break on leaving the stalls and was always up against it. He still looks in good shape and hopefully should be capable of winning again off his current mark.
On Friday last week THEM AND US was reportedly unsuited by the soft ground when well beaten on his nursery debut upped to seven furlongs at Doncaster last month. Having previously won a six furlong maiden on his debut in September, he looked much happier in this company on the sounder surface. There should be more to come from him and hopefully he can go one better next time. Earlier on the card NIBLAWI failed to build on his second over course and distance on his debut eight days previously. He was always on the back foot after a slow start and could never recover. He has plenty of size about him and is worth another chance. He looks a nice prospect for next season with another winter under his belt.
On Tuesday before HABESHIA’S effort we had STRAIT OF MAGELLAN running. Slowly into his stride he was always in the rear and never really got a look in the race. He looks as though he will appreciate a bit further.
Yesterday we were delighted to finally get off the mark with SILVER MIRAGE after some consistent efforts. She certainly deserved it and was given a positive ride by Adam Kirby. Placed three times over this trip at Wolverhampton on her latest starts, she blasted out to make all and saw the race out far better than any of her rivals. Later on the card BORN TO REIGN looked very one paced in his contest. He followed the winner through here, but looked to hang in behind horses when coming to challenge and was a bit disappointing. He looks on the evidence as though he might just appreciate a bit further. Our last runner was KEY TO YOUR HEART. She was steadied at the start and held up in last off a moderate pace. She made some progress when under pressure over one furlong out and was staying on at the end.
Today we are hoping for a decent effort from ON THE HUH who is a two-year-old that we have always liked. He may just need the run, but it should not be too long before he gets his head in front.
Tomorrow we head to Wolverhampton with ASTRAL WEEKS. She is a nice filly who has had some niggley little problems that have kept her off the track. She is going the right way now and will hopefully give an encouraging performance here.
The yearlings are starting to come to hand and they went up Warren Hill this morning. They look a nice bunch with one or two really catching the eye and we still have shares available if you were looking for that special Christmas Present!
